The character of the Andratx area and villas in this region of Mallorca
Puerto Andratx - 25 minutes drive to Palma and 40 minutes to Palma airport – whilst still retaining its attractive old fishing village atmosphere, has now become a delightful centre on which to base a summer holiday break, tucked away in the sunny, up-market south west corner of Mallorca, (geographically north of Ibiza over the horizon) with many shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants, some surprisingly good and not expensive.The villa is very conveniently situated just a few minutes easy walk out of the port. It has genuinely memorable and stunning panoramic views encompassing the whole sea vista of the bay - way over to the mountains in the distance.
The villa has its own beautiful pool and the daytime hub of summer living at Villa Ladera is its 'Pool Deck' - the top terrace - looking down to the sea on one side and up the sunny pine tree hillside on the other.
Everyone spends a lot of their day here swimming in the private pool (8.5m. x 4.5m.) with its 'exercise' Jet Stream, sunbathing, lounging and reading on comfortable, cushioned sun loungers. The Pool Deck's style is Spanish 'rustica', with a large functional wooden bar, (plus a bar fridge).
There's a gas barbecue and a large farmhouse style dining table with comfortable banquette seating, protected against the sun under bamboo shading supported by old olive tree trunks.
Most days the cook, via the electric food lift from the kitchen below, can send up delicious summer lunches. In the evening, you can dine here or you can also dine by candle light on the lower terrace below the drawing room where we have a wonderful blue granite table in an open sided tent 'pavilion' with trellis and vine leafed style ceiling.
Tennis courts are in the Port and several International golf courses within 10/20minutes easy drive. Boats (large sail or motor) and windsurfs can easily be hired from the port where you can also go water skiing. Horse riding is also available. There are beach or sea view restaurants not far away for lazy lunches (some delightfully tucked away) where they serve the freshest fish, pastas, salads, cheeses and good wine on terraces - and many more a little further afield as Mallorca has very many beautiful places you can drive to and spend the day, about which there is information in the villa.
Apart from the daily cleaner, who obviously keeps the villa immaculate, there is the added bonus of having a cook/housekeeper who we employ for the summer and lives in a separate flatlet on the lower terrace, with its own entrance and direct access to the kitchen from the terrace. Therefore, absolutely no household shopping has to be done – although it's under your control and cost - nor do you have to prepare the main meals (except on cooks day off if you don't want to leave the villa), thus making it a truly relaxing holiday.
Air Europa, GB Airways (British airways) and easyJet run scheduled flights to Palma from Gatwick, British Midland have scheduled from Heathrow and East Midlands, easyJet fly out of Luton from Stansted and Bristol and Bournemouth have scheduled flights. There are also masses of charter flights from all main airports.
Arrival and departure times are:- arrival after 3 p.m. and departure before 10.00 a.m. so the villa can be got ready for either ourselves or the next guests.

We are frequently asked "How near are you to the beach?" Well, Puerto Andratx is not a package resort but in 'villa with private pool' territory and it hasn't got a beach.Sorry about that, but it is compensated by no coach loads of tourists, broiling lobster pink, cheek by jowl on a beach getting sand into uncomfortable places. That said, there is a good one only a short drive away at Camp de Mar and a smaller one at San Telmo, (with a lovely restaurant nearby on the sea, which we can direct you to).
Finally, if it's not all swimming, sunbathing or just reading books on the Pool Deck - there are lots of alternative active things to do as well - golf, tennis, boating, scuba diving and other places to visit - the list islong and it's all there for you to have a wonderful summer holiday - with a pleasant place from which to stay.
